Surf the Murph 50K - prerace jitters

For whatever reason I am much more nervous about this race!

Could it be the travel involved? If I forgot anything this morning there is not much I can do about it once I hit the road after Job B today.

First race where I am "on my own"... no crew to help out and take care of things for me (such a nice guy that Mr. Wildknits). Trying to figure out what I might need in drop bags has been interesting - and will continue tonight when I reach my sisters' in Burnsville.

The distraction is making it hard to focus at work (Job A and Job B).... add to that all the sugary treats (carbo loading?) appearing on my desk due to Halloween and I am especially wired (attempting to resist the sugar but the cupcake decorated to look like an eyeball has to be eaten soon or it will be stale ;-> ).

Have given up on checking the weather, though I did throw a pair of shorts in the bag as last I heard a high of 50 F was predicted.

Less than 24 hours to go.....

I forget which race you're doing, but for 50K, you can probably get by with what's at the aid stations and not worry about drop bags and such. For 50 miles, well, in my experience, you don't know what you need until it's too late.

50k - so yes, could do with out and forage off the aid station tables for food, but food allergies/intolerances make that a chancy thing (PB&J is a no-no and other nuts are becoming bad news as well - huge sigh). Plus - never have tried the hammer gel and not willing to experiment (as if I am all that competitive! ;->).

The main reason for drop bags is clothing (and gels). I worry about getting too chilled and the Raynauds kicking in. You should see the bag of warm clothes for AFTER the race ;->

Will keep in mind the advice for the 50 miler - maybe next summer??

Thanks for all the well wishes! Finished the race, with another 50K PR. Details to follow when I get home and download some photos.

Another awesome job, Lisa! Rest well and then let us all know what your next goals are. 50 miles? 100 miles? ;)
